Over the last 17 years, we've grown our team to nearly 300 award-winning subject matter experts from Montreal to Mexico City, New York to Nashville, Seattle to San Diego, and everywhere in between. As we've expanded our reach, we continue to refine our technical expertise and marketing savvy to keep our full lifecycle solutions firing on all cylinders.
In 2007, Ryan Malone founded SmartBug Media, a digital agency built for client solutions across the entire customer lifecycle. With an emphasis on remote-first work, the vision for a new kind of company culture emerged: to create an environment where people have a challenging career and intellectual respect for their colleagues—plus the time and freedom to make memories with the ones they love.
By 2010, SmartBug had established its reputation as a leader in the inbound marketing space. In June of that year, HubSpot named SmartBug in the top 1 percent of inbound marketers. SmartBug also ranked 20th out of HubSpot's more than 3,000 customers on the company's list of all-stars, which includes the 100 most successful inbound marketing performers.
In 2017, and for the seven years following, SmartBug was named to the Inc. 5000 as one of America's Fastest-Growing Private Companies. In 2017, SmartBug Media ranked in the top quarter of participants with a three-year revenue growth of over 391 percent. By 2020, the company had grown to 100+ SmartBugs.
In 2019, SmartBug Media won HubSpot's Global Partner of the Year award for its standout success the previous year. This important marker in the company's history reaffirmed SmartBug's marketing savvy, assisting businesses in generating leads, increasing awareness, and building brand loyalty through inbound marketing, digital strategy, design, marketing automation, and sales enablement.
In 2021, for the second time, SmartBug Media received recognition as HubSpot's Partner of the Year. SmartBug received this honor for selling more HubSpot to its clients than any other agency in North America, demonstrating its power as one of the most strategic and creative marketing agencies in the world.

In 2021, SmartBug Media made its first acquisition in company history, bolstering its B2C and B2B e-commerce offerings. The same year, SmartBug earned the coveted Klaviyo Master Elite Partner designation, expanded its technical savvy in e-commerce platform Shopify, and welcomed 40+ new SmartBugs to the team.
In 2023, SmartBug continued to evolve its service offerings by acquiring Chair10 Marketing, a Seattle-based performance marketing agency and leader in the paid media space. As a result of the acquisition, SmartBug affirmed its position in the market as a full service digital marketing agency with comprehensive solutions across the entire customer lifecycle.
In October 2023, SmartBug acquired Globalia Inc., a Canadian digital agency known for its deep systems integration, implementation, and digital transformation capabilities. As a result, SmartBug solidified its position as the world’s largest, deepest, and most decorated HubSpot partner in North America and welcomed more than 70 new SmartBugs to the team.
